Wulin Traditional Villages—Combination of Chinese and Western Cultures

Wulin, located in the southwest corner of Xintang in Jinjiang, is home to a cluster of traditional Chinese villages with a history of over 600 years. It is a well-known homeland for overseas Chinese. There are buildings not only in traditional Minnan style but also of Southeast Asian flavors, both of which reflect the nostalgia and patriotism of overseas Chinese.
Walking around the villages, the Minnan-style buildings seem to tell stories of homesickness and the western style constructions are best examples to illustrate cultural combination. If you are here, it's recommend that you listen to some stories that reveal the past of the old generation of overseas Chinese who went to the southeast Asian regions and countries. Besides, you are suggested to have a visit to the History Museum of Overseas Chinese in Chaodong Building and enjoy the charm of the construction which was jointly built by Cai Huaifan and Cai Huaizi. The building was named "Embracing the Motherland" to show their affection for the homeland. In such a peaceful atmosphere, you may feel the buildings reminiscing about the Minnan people's nostalgia and untiring efforts.
In 2016, traditional villages in Wulin were shortlisted in the fourth batch of traditional Chinese villages. In recent years, Jinjiang municipal Party committee and municipal government have continuously made efforts to protect and develop the Wulin traditional villages. In the blueprint, a livable and business-friendly Wulin with its unique culture and tourism can be realized in the coming years. With local homestay hotels and cultural creations, Wulin is also expected to be built as an overseas Chinese museum and a backyard garden in southern Fujian, thus contributing to the development of rural tourism with southern Fujian characteristics.
Currently, the protection and development of Wulin traditional villages is in progress. Amid waves of flowers, traditional buildings in Wulin are being restored gradually to their former glory. Before Gymnasiade 2020 in Jinjiang, some attractions of Wulin traditional villages will be open to the visitors from all over the world.

中西合璧的传统村落——晋江梧林
在晋江市新塘街道西南一隅，坐落着一片历经600多年岁月的中国传统村落——梧林。她是著名侨乡，既拥有闽南传统古建筑群，又见证了近代南洋文化在这里扎根，更传唱着华侨爱国爱乡的脉脉乡音。
漫步其间，出砖入石的闽南大厝载满乡愁，西洋楼、番仔楼里处处是中西合璧的结晶。来到这里，不妨听一听老一代晋江华侨“走南洋”的故事，看一看朝东楼的侨史馆，品一品旅菲侨胞蔡怀番、蔡怀紫合建宅邸“胸怀祖国楼”的魅力……在静谧的古建筑群里，感受闽南人的爱拼敢赢和浓浓爱乡之情。
2016年，梧林传统村落入选第四批中国传统村落。近年来，晋江市委、市政府不断加大对梧林传统村落保护和开发的力度。根据规划，梧林传统村落的保护开发，将以建设宜居、宜游、宜商的文旅综合项目为目标，引入民宿、文创、闽南特色及传统文化等业态，开发建设成华侨博物馆和闽南后花园，带动闽南特色乡村旅游业发展。
当前，梧林传统村落保护发展项目正在建设推进中。在一片片花海映衬下，一栋栋古建筑经保护和修缮，正逐步恢复原貌。2020年晋江世中运前，梧林传统村落部分景区将对外开放，以特色文化聚落的新姿态，喜迎八方来客。
